Urban Light Community Church

About this church

Urban Light Community Church gathers Sundays at 11:00 a.m. for a participatory service of worship songs, prayer, announcements, biblical preaching, and a closing benediction. The gathering usually lasts about ninety minutes. Preschool care is available from the beginning, and children in kindergarten through fifth grade leave for their own teaching before the sermon. First Sundays add Communion and a community meal after worship. Clothing ranges from jeans and T-shirts to dressier attire, and accessible parking and an entrance with lift access are on Seventh Street.

Founded in 2005 by longtime residents and newcomers living on Muncie's urban south side, Urban Light intentionally pursues reconciliation across ethnic and economic lines. Its Madison Street location sits on the city's historic line of segregation, giving that mission a concrete neighborhood setting. Disability Connections meets Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., youth generally gather on second and fourth Sunday evenings, and the church also supports addiction recovery, mentoring, Bible studies, and an annual block party. Transportation to Sunday worship can be requested by 3:00 p.m. Saturday, making the congregation more accessible to neighbors without a ride.
