Saint Paul Catholic Church

About this church

Saint Paul Catholic Church serves Valparaiso with Sunday Mass at 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30 a.m., plus a 4:30 p.m. Life Teen Mass. The parish describes a community of approximately 3,000 families supported by a pastoral team, Catholic school, Spanish-music leadership, and a wide range of discipleship ministries. Livestream and social-media links are available for people who want to become familiar with worship before attending. Because holy days and sacramental schedules change, visitors should consult the current bulletin or calendar in addition to the regular Sunday hours.

Catholic life in Valparaiso reaches to the 1850s, when early Masses were sometimes celebrated in the courthouse and a blacksmith shop. Parish records identify baptisms and a marriage from 1858, and the repaired early church later housed a school, beginning Saint Paul Catholic School. The congregation's local service now includes taking the Eucharist to Catholics in seven nursing homes and assisting with a weekly Mass for residents. Its campus also hosts the Saint Agnes Center, which provides daytime care for older adults living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Saint Paul Cemetery, established in 1867, occupies ten landscaped acres with a chapel and is open daily for private prayer and visitation; a Memorial Day Mass is also held there.
