Church of St. Peter - Vietnamese Catholic Community

About this church

The Church of St. Peter–Vietnamese Catholic Community celebrates Vietnamese Mass Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m., plus an English Mass Sundays at 9:00, at 618 East Eighteenth Street in Des Moines. A Vietnamese weekday Mass is offered Thursdays at noon. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available Saturdays from 6:00 to 6:30, immediately before the vigil Mass.

The parish brings English-speaking and Vietnamese Catholics together within the Diocese of Des Moines. Its mission explicitly addresses cultural differences, seeking unity through the Holy Spirit, service, and shared Catholic faith rather than operating as two unrelated congregations at one address. Baptisms are ordinarily celebrated on the first Sunday of the month after advance contact with the parish secretary. The bilingual schedule gives newcomers several distinct choices: English worship early Sunday, Vietnamese worship Saturday evening or later Sunday morning, and a midday Vietnamese Mass during the week. Current homilies and parish reflections appear in both the context of the liturgical calendar and the community’s life. Anyone arranging Baptism or another sacrament should contact the parish rather than relying on the recurring Mass schedule alone.
