Christ Community Church

About this church

Christ Community Church meets at 3000 Alburnett Road in Marion for Sunday School for all ages at 9:00 a.m. and worship at 10:15, both in person and through Facebook Live. Sunday worship has a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere, and the church says clothing, political affiliation, past experiences, and unresolved questions are not barriers to being welcomed. Life Groups, study groups, affinity groups, and service partners give people next steps beyond the main gathering.

The congregation began in 1989 as a second Methodist church for Marion, initially using contemporary worship at the Collins Road Theater; four hundred people attended its first service. It moved to Linn-Mar High School in 1992 and held its first worship at the current property in January 1995. The church's vision follows three verbs: connect people with God and one another, grow in faith and understanding of Jesus, and serve the community through love and mercy. Children's and nursery leadership support younger families, while local mission opportunities invite members to put that vision into practice. Christ Community's origin in a theater and school still fits its present emphasis on adaptable, accessible worship rather than formality for its own sake.
