Central Christian Church

About this church

Central Christian Church worships Sundays at 10:00 a.m. at 206 West Central Avenue in Arkansas City. Communion is celebrated every Sunday at a table open to everyone, a practice important enough that the congregation uses a chalice as its logo. The church belongs to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and traces its Arkansas City history to 1877.

Central describes the Communion table as common ground for an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming community and connects Christian unity with God’s mission in the world. Ministries for children and young people include Sunday School, nursery, children’s choir, Vacation Bible School, church camp, Chi Rho, Disciple Youth Fellowship, and scholarships. Community outreach includes nonperishable-food and toiletry collection, a Thanksgiving dinner, support for local and international organizations, and service as a designated disaster-relief location when the area faces an emergency. For someone planning a first visit, the weekly pattern is simple—one Sunday hour with Communion—but the open table, 1877 heritage, youth programs, and emergency-response role show a congregation whose identity extends beyond the service itself.
