First United Methodist Church

About this church

First United Methodist Church of El Dorado offers traditional worship at 9:00 a.m. and a more contemporary service at 11:00. The 9:00 service is livestreamed through the church website and Facebook, giving prospective visitors an opportunity to see the sanctuary service in advance. The congregation’s mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Children and student ministries use Safe Gatherings to screen and train staff and volunteers, a practical detail for families evaluating Sunday and weekday programs.

The church’s own history dates its organization to 1869, when Methodist ministry in El Dorado was still served by a circuit rider. Sunday School classes and the first church building followed in 1873. That history also records an open-membership policy adopted in 1964 without regard to race or color. Today, the two-service format lets worshipers choose between traditional and contemporary styles while remaining part of one long-established downtown congregation. Online worship, trained children’s workers, and more than 150 years of local history provide helpful context beyond the basic address and denomination.
