St. Joseph Catholic Church

About this church

St. Joseph Catholic Church's weekend schedule opens with the 5 p.m. Saturday Vigil; Sunday Mass follows at 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. at 215 West 13th Street in Hays. Weekday Mass begins at 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Confession is available from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, 6:45 to 7:15 and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday, and 7 to 7:30 a.m. on weekdays. Adoration is held on the third Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. unless that date is a holy day, giving visitors a recurring but not weekly prayer opportunity.

Parish records trace pastoral leadership to 1876 and show the arrival of Capuchins in Hays in 1878. The current capital campaign is preserving historic windows and restoring the church steeple, connecting present stewardship with the building inherited from earlier Catholic families on the plains. OCIA provides a path for adults exploring Catholic faith, while religious education, sacramental preparation, liturgical ministry, music, a food pantry, and a diaper closet support parish and community life. New parishioners can register through the current 2026–27 form and learn about ministries after choosing a Mass. For a first visit, the two Sunday hours offer an early or later option. Anyone using weekday Confession should note that it follows the 6:30 Mass, and people planning Adoration must check whether the third Thursday conflicts with a holy day.
