West Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church has served Middlesboro since 1960, when a mission Sunday school opened with 34 people in a rented building moved across Fonde Mountain. The congregation formally organized in 1961 and rebuilt after a tornado destroyed its church building in May 1988. Members worshiped at a local school for about eleven months before moving into the present building on Easter Sunday 1989, giving this church an unusually well-documented story of local persistence and shared labor.

The current weekly rhythm is straightforward: Sunday school at 10:00 a.m., morning worship at 11:00, and Wednesday Bible study at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Danny Bruce leads the congregation.
