Our Lady of Good Counsel

About this church

Our Lady of Good Counsel is a historic South Baltimore Catholic church now participating in the Catholic Community of South Baltimore. The parish began in 1855 as a mission of St. John’s, and its story includes the Chapel of St. Lawrence O’Toole, early pastor James Gibbons, and generations of parish and school life near Fort McHenry. Today worship, youth ministry, service, justice, and shared programming connect Good Counsel with nearby Holy Cross.

Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel begins at 11:00 a.m. and is livestreamed on Facebook. Weekday Mass is celebrated there Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. On the first Tuesday of each month, Eucharistic Adoration follows from 7:00 to 8:00. The shared community’s other weekend Masses—Saturday 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.—take place at Holy Cross and should not be mistaken for services at the Fort Avenue church. A van ride is offered for selected Holy Cross Masses when reserved by Wednesday at 3:00, but the published schedule does not attach that service to Good Counsel’s 11:00 Mass. Special outdoor Masses may relocate the Sunday gathering to Latrobe Park.
