First Congregational Church of North Adams

About this church

First Congregational Church of North Adams is a United Church of Christ congregation with roots dating to 1827 and a sanctuary built in 1865. The church identifies as Open and Affirming, explicitly welcoming people across sexual orientations, gender identities, backgrounds, and life experiences. Worship, music, mission, stewardship, and community life are shaped by that inclusive commitment, while the historic building gives the congregation a visible presence in downtown North Adams.

Sunday worship begins at 10:00 a.m. in person and through Zoom. The church office distributes the online invitation, so remote visitors should request access before Sunday morning. In-person guests are greeted and receive a program; screens help guide the service, and people may sit or stand according to comfort. Clothing ranges from formal to casual. These details make the service approachable for people who are unfamiliar with congregational worship or need flexibility while participating. The Worship page is the most useful first-visit resource, while the Beliefs and Values and Who We Are pages explain the church’s theology, Open and Affirming status, and history. Holiday observances and community events can affect the normal pattern, so the calendar should be consulted before a special trip.
