Edwards Church

About this church

Edwards Church gathers at 10 a.m. Sunday in its distinctive downtown building at 297 Main Street in Northampton, across from the Academy of Music. A typical service lasts about an hour and includes music, prayer, Scripture, a sermon, and a children's message. The congregation normally shares Communion on each month's first Sunday. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade may attend church school, and nursery care is available for children age four and younger. Coffee and conversation follow worship, giving newcomers a natural opportunity to meet the congregation without a separate event.

The United Church of Christ congregation is Open and Affirming and connects worship with a strong downtown service presence. Its building hosts community programs including a soup kitchen, a Buddhist sangha, a parents center, and support groups, while members also support shelters, food assistance, hospice work, and other local needs. Parking takes a little planning: limited spaces behind the church are reserved for older adults and people with walking limitations, but Northampton's public lots and metered spaces are free on Sundays; the nearby garage is not. That practical detail makes arriving a few minutes early worthwhile. Visitors can enter through the downtown-facing church and ask a greeter about nursery or church-school placement.
