Emanuel Lutheran Church (ELCA)

About this church

Emanuel Lutheran Church worships Sundays at 9:30 a.m. at 200 Greenwood Street in Worcester. Founded by Swedish immigrants in 1896, the congregation has grown into an intergenerational church known as a community gathering place for Quinsigamond Village and the surrounding area. Lutheran worship, music, prayer, and neighborhood cooperation shape its public life.

Children begin in the sanctuary with their families for confession, hymns, worship, and a children’s sermon, then kindergarten through sixth grade are dismissed to Sunday School. Teachers are congregation volunteers who complete Massachusetts CORI background checks. The campus also hosts community activities, including music groups, outreach planning, and local sales or gatherings, reflecting a building used beyond Sunday morning. Families can expect to worship together before children move to age-specific learning rather than checking them in at the door. Other visitors can arrive for the single 9:30 service and stay to meet the community. Sunday School format can vary with attendance and season, so parents should contact the church when a specific classroom arrangement matters.
