St. Paul Lutheran Church

About this church

St. Paul Lutheran Church offers traditional worship at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, liturgical worship at 9 a.m. Sunday, and contemporary worship at 10:30 Sunday at 727 South Second Avenue in Alpena. Children's Church meets during the 10:30 service: children remain for an opening prayer and song, leave for about forty minutes of interactive learning and celebration, and return for the closing song. Sermons are livestreamed and archived through the website and church app.

The congregation describes its mission as expressing God's compassion in the community and beyond through both words and actions. Worship volunteers prepare the altar and Communion, read Scripture and prayers, welcome guests, assist worshipers with mobility needs, and support special services. Men in Motion for Ministry meets for breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday at a local restaurant, combining relationships, Bible study, prayer, spiritual growth, and community service. St. Paul's current building reflects a longer Alpena history: after a 1923 fire destroyed an earlier church, a replacement cornerstone was laid in 1925 and the new structure was dedicated in 1926; later projects added education space and renovated the sanctuary and bell tower. Visitors can select worship by style rather than merely time, with the 10:30 service the clearest choice for households seeking a separate children's learning experience.
