Ascension Lutheran Church

About this church

Ascension Lutheran Church is an East Lansing congregation in the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. It describes a multigenerational family united by God’s Word, the Lutheran Confessions, worship, fellowship, learning, and service. Its teaching emphasizes salvation by grace through faith in Jesus, Baptism as a means of grace, Scripture, care for spiritual and physical needs, and sharing Jesus in surrounding communities.

Sunday classes for toddlers through adults begin at 8:45 a.m. The Divine Service starts at 10:00, lasts about an hour and usually ends by 11:15, and is followed by refreshments. This historic, traditional, liturgical service includes spoken and sung responses, hymns, prayer, preaching, and weekly Communion; recordings are available online. Clothing ranges from Sunday best to casual wear. Parking surrounds the building, and two south entrances lead to the sanctuary. Children worship with their families, while an attached cry room provides a sanctuary view and audio. Baptized Christians who affirm the church’s stated understanding of Christ’s body and blood may receive Communion; others may come forward for a blessing. Wednesday worship begins at 7:00 during Advent and Lent. Public pages do not specify accessibility, child check-in, volunteer screening, livestream timing, or whether infant-through-three music class meets year-round.
