About this church
Bostwick Lake Congregational United Church of Christ is an inclusive Rockford-area congregation founded in 1846 by nine members meeting in a Cannon Township home. Sunday worship begins at 10:30 a.m., lasts about an hour, and streams on YouTube. Services combine traditional and contemporary elements with prayer, music, and a message. There is no dress code, on-site parking is available, and the building provides accessible parking, entrances, and seating. Nursery care serves younger children; preschool through fifth grade begins worship with family, participates in a children's message, then moves to Sunday School. Teachers receive training and background checks, and children may remain in worship with parents.
The congregation practices open Communion on the first Sunday monthly, welcoming participants regardless of church membership, background, or denomination. Its United Church of Christ identity emphasizes questions, spiritual discovery, justice, reconciliation, nonviolence, creation care, and dignity across ethnicity, sexuality, politics, race, and economic status. Small groups mix Bible or book discussion, social connection, and service. Volunteers pack meals for Kids' Food Basket every six weeks, mentor Lakes Elementary students weekly through Kids Hope USA, support North Kent Connect's pantry and a family-shelter network, and host six annual blood drives with Versiti. Grief support, scouting, fellowship, weddings, funerals, and facility rental offer further community entry points.
