Saint James Missionary Baptist Church

About this church

Saint James Missionary Baptist Church is Brookhaven’s oldest Black church and the oldest in Lincoln County, founded in 1866 during Reconstruction in a brush-arbor meeting place. Prayer, praise, Bible-based worship, Sunday School, children, teenagers, online study, service, and a long record of community care continue a congregation that moved to its present East Monticello Street home in 1998.

Sunday School begins at 9:00 a.m. and morning worship at 10:00. Wednesday youth Bible study meets 6:00–7:00 p.m., while adult Bible study begins at 7:00 through the Saint James Facebook page. Youth ministry includes Sunday School, age-appropriate lessons, music and activities, summer outreach, and Youth Sunday, when young people lead the service. The public pages do not give dependable dates for every youth feature, so only the Wednesday study should be treated as weekly. The site also celebrates pastoral anniversaries and church events that may remain visible after their dates. Public pages do not specify worship duration, music style, dress, parking, accessibility, nursery care, child check-in, secure pickup, screening, Communion frequency, or a Sunday livestream. The Facebook reference applies specifically to adult Bible study.
