Calvary Christian Union

About this church

Calvary Christian Union in Excelsior Springs gathers for Sunday worship at 10:00 a.m., followed by Sunday School at 11:00. A Wednesday Bible study begins at 7:00 p.m.; the church’s current bulletin notes that the group is working through the Gospel of John. The official site also publishes a dated Sunday bulletin and an online sermon, giving prospective visitors a practical way to see what the congregation is teaching before attending. Its Benton Avenue location is presented as a place for worship, biblical instruction, and a steady weekly rhythm rather than a large menu of overlapping programs.

The congregation announced a leadership transition in April 2026: longtime pastor Ron Johnston stepped down for health reasons and became pastor emeritus, while Steve Harness became lead pastor. Harness and his family had participated in Calvary since December 2019, and he had already led the Wednesday study for several years. That continuity may be helpful for someone evaluating a church during a pastoral change. Calvary may fit visitors who prefer morning worship followed immediately by Christian education, a midweek Scripture study, current bulletins they can review online, and a Christian Union congregation with locally rooted leadership.
