Salem United Church of Christ

About this church

Salem United Church of Christ in Higginsville worships in person Sundays at 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., with the 10:00 service also shared on Facebook Live. Sunday School meets in person from 8:45 to 9:45 for preschoolers through adults, with age groupings extending from early childhood through high school. Online Sunday School is available for adults at 8:45 and children at 11:15 by contacting the office for Zoom information. These overlapping options let households combine worship and education in several ways.

Established in 1870, Salem has grown alongside the Higginsville community for more than 150 years. Its Youth on Mission program began more than three decades ago after a Sunday School teacher proposed participating in a national work camp. The first group served in the Navajo Nation at Shiprock, New Mexico, and later camps continued connecting youth formation with practical service. That history gives the church a distinct profile beyond its schedule: two in-person services, livestream access, Sunday learning for every age, and a longstanding youth tradition built around leaving Missouri to work alongside other communities.
