Gethsemane Baptist Church is a historically Black Baptist congregation in Kansas City whose roots reach to a 1959 mission organized with twenty new members. Initially called North Highland Baptist Church, it adopted the Gethsemane name after relocating to Olive Street in 1962 and later moved to its present East 73rd Street site. The church describes itself as “the church with the friendly spirit.” Its ministries address worship, Christian education, outreach, food support, health, care for sick and homebound members, and evangelism in the neighborhood and beyond.
