St. Peter's United Church

About this church

St. Peter's United Church of Christ offers a less-formal service Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday worship at 10:00 a.m. in Washington, Missouri. Sunday music includes organ and choirs, and the service is livestreamed on YouTube. Children's Sunday School begins around 10:15 after the children's message, allowing families to start worship together. Coffee, choir, handbells, and seasonal music provide several ways to participate, while the congregation's motto—“Enter to Worship. Depart to Serve.”—connects the sanctuary gathering with life in the community.

The church celebrated its 180th anniversary in 2024. Its history records a German Evangelical heritage and a later relationship with the United Church of Christ, alongside a long commitment to Christian education, charity, outreach, and local service. The current congregation describes its purpose as nurturing Christian community, worshiping faithfully, and working for justice. Music remains a visible bridge between that history and present parish life: the choir sings during the school year, and handbell groups contribute regularly. Visitors can therefore choose between an informal Saturday setting and a fuller Sunday service while encountering one of Washington's longstanding Protestant congregations.
