Nazareth Baptist Church

About this church

Nazareth Baptist Church in West New York offers Spanish worship at 9 a.m., English worship at 11, and a second Spanish service at 1 p.m. The 11 a.m. English and 1 p.m. Spanish services are available online. Evening Bible study and prayer continue the bilingual rhythm, with Spanish at 7 p.m. and English at 8, both online. That schedule makes language choice explicit rather than asking newcomers to infer it, and it gives households three in-person Sunday entry points plus remote teaching and prayer.

The church began in 1963 when Cuban Christians living in political exile gathered to worship and pray in the home of Gustavo and Avelina Garcia. Bergen Baptist Church sponsored the Bible-study community as a mission for two years, and Nazareth formally organized in 1965 in affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention. The congregation now reports nearly 600 members and continues to emphasize proclaiming the gospel locally and globally. Small groups meet through the week to create a setting for spiritual growth with other believers, while an online sermon library lets visitors assess teaching before attending. For a first visit, choose the 9 or 1 o'clock Spanish service or the 11 o'clock English service, then consult the current calendar for Communion Sundays and group meetings.
