First Presbyterian Church of Whippany

About this church

First Presbyterian Church of Whippany normally worships at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, with online access and an archive of previous services. The congregation describes worship as genuine, creative, and Spirit-filled. A typical liturgy includes Scripture, contextual preaching, confession, passing the peace, spoken prayer requests when people wish to share, and the Lord's Prayer. Joint summer services can alter the time and location—as an August gathering with Hildale Park did—so visitors should check the online-worship notice rather than assuming every Sunday remains at Whippany's usual hour.

The church has served Whippany for more than 190 years but frames its identity around present community needs. It runs a weekly food pantry, serves a monthly meal at Homeless Solutions, and gathers supplies for housing, food, detention-affected families, and other local partners. Children and longtime members share the same community, with Bible study, youth retreats, a monthly Brunch Club, post-worship coffee during the school year, and a creatively named Church of the Wild Things. A newcomer can preview preaching through the archive, then stay after a regular Sunday service for coffee to experience the congregation beyond the liturgy.
