First Presbyterian Church of Avenel

About this church

First Presbyterian Church of Avenel worships at 10 a.m. every Sunday, both in its sanctuary and by livestream. Recent services remain available online, allowing newcomers to preview the congregation before attending. Children from preschool through fifth grade begin Sunday School at 10:15 a.m. during the school-year season, so families should confirm the current term dates before a first visit. The church's roots include Protestant Sunday-school gatherings at the Six Roads Schoolhouse and, before 1919, a small group meeting in the old Remsen Avenue firehouse.

Community care is visible through the church's His Hands Clothes Closet, which distributes donated clothing, shoes, accessories, and linens to local neighbors; the church asks visitors to call for the current operating schedule. A prayer chain connects urgent requests with the pastor, coordinators, captains, and several prayer teams. Wider mission support includes disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, development work, Church World Service's Blankets+ program, and Operation Christmas Child. Youth fellowship and Vacation Bible School add family-focused points of connection during the year. The mix of a fixed Sunday service, online viewing, school-year children's formation, and practical outreach gives prospective visitors several ways to understand congregational life before deciding where to participate.
