St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church

About this church

St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Bryson City celebrates English-language Sunday Mass at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Daily Mass is published for noon on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Fridays, Eucharistic Adoration runs from 11:00 a.m. to noon, with Confession scheduled from 11:15 to 11:50. The parish also serves Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission in Cherokee, which has separate English and Spanish weekend Masses, so visitors should match the church name and address to the appropriate schedule.

St. Joseph's traces its beginning to 1941 as a mission of St. John's in Waynesville. Its current ministry reflects that long Catholic presence through the Sacraments, devotions, works of mercy, and religious education. Children ages five through seventeen meet Sundays from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., and adult formation meets Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30. Ministry roles include ushers, readers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, and choir members; Communion ministry also reaches homebound and infirm parishioners. This is a small-town parish with substantial formation after Sunday Mass and a bilingual mission relationship that is important to understand when planning a visit.
