Burgaw United Methodist Church

About this church

Burgaw United Methodist Church begins Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 at 110 East Bridgers Street. Adults and children have classes during the same hour in the fellowship hall, and children are welcome to remain with their families in worship. After the second hymn, younger participants are invited forward for a message prepared for them. Ushers provide a bulletin explaining the service and upcoming activities, and clothing is left to the visitor's comfort.

Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday each month and is open to members and nonmembers. Participants come to the altar rail, where they may stand or kneel to receive before the pastor dismisses each group with a blessing. Midweek formation includes 10 a.m. Thursday prayer and seasonal Bible studies whose dates are announced separately. Community projects have gathered teddy bears for local police and sheriff departments to give children during difficult cases and essential clothing for the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh. Other outreach opportunities change across the year. A first-time household can attend the 10 o'clock class hour together, move into 11 a.m. worship, and know that children may either stay in the pew or take part in the dedicated message. Communion Sundays provide a particularly clear view of Burgaw's open-table Methodist practice.
