About this church
Galloway Memorial Episcopal Church in Elkin worships Sundays at 11:00 a.m. in partnership with Christ Lutheran Church of Jonesville. Location depends on the week: services are at Galloway on first, third, and fifth Sundays, then at Christ Lutheran on second and fourth Sundays. Faith Formation meets at 10:00 before worship, and coffee hour follows the service. Recorded services and upcoming livestreams are available online. The congregation belongs to The Episcopal Church and worldwide Anglican Communion and describes itself as open and affirming, explicitly welcoming LGBTQ+ people as full members of its community.
The parish began with a memorial chapel built in 1898 for Alexander Broadnax Galloway. Today its mission draws on Micah 6:8: doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. Members participate in worship as altar servers, lectors, ushers, chalice bearers, choir singers, and other liturgical assistants. Community work includes delivering midday meals to homebound older adults, supporting local nonprofits, trail cleanup, conservation, community gardening, and monthly children’s crafts at the Elkin Farmers Market. Local art also appears in the parish house and nave, including a working loom studio. First-time visitors should verify that Sunday’s service is at 308 West Main Street before driving to Galloway.
