First United Methodist Church Forest City

About this church

First United Methodist Church in downtown Forest City begins Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and worship in its historic sanctuary at 10:30. The congregation describes the service as progressively minded, inclusive, and traditional. Hymns are supported by a full choir and one of the region’s largest pipe organs. Children participate in a dedicated moment early in worship and may then leave for Children’s Church. Multiple adult Sunday School classes meet from 9:30 to 10:15, with volunteers available to help visitors find the correct room.

Youth in grades six through twelve gather Sundays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for learning, fellowship, and service projects. A free community meal is served from 4:30 to 6:00 on the fourth Monday of each month. Musical participation extends beyond the Sunday choir: chancel rehearsal is generally Wednesday at 7:00 outside summer, hand chimes meet Wednesday at 10:00, and a mountain dulcimer group rehearses Tuesday at 10:00. Founded in 1889, the congregation moved into its current Main Street church in 1955. First Church is at 341 East Main Street.
