First Presbyterian Church

About this church

First Presbyterian Church is a downtown Winston-Salem congregation combining traditional and modern worship, Christian education, children’s and student ministries, and local and global service. It describes itself as a community reliant on God’s grace and Word, with a life that joins historic and contemporary expression, inward formation, and outward engagement. The two Sunday services use different rooms and worship styles, with education scheduled between them.

Traditional worship begins Sunday at 8:45 a.m. in the sanctuary, and modern worship begins at 11:00 in the Worship Center; both are livestreamed. Sunday School for all ages meets at 10:00. At either service, children in kindergarten through third grade may attend Children’s Church during the sermon, ages three through prekindergarten have Sunday School, and childcare serves birth through age two. High-school youth group meets Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., while middle-school Connect meets Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:15 during the active program year. Children are also welcome in worship. Since the student page publishes annual resume dates and the homepage highlights specific weekly services, summer and holiday visitors should confirm that age-based programs are in session even when worship continues. The children’s page explains classroom options by each Sunday hour, making it the best family-planning source.
