About this church

GateWay Worship Center is an interdenominational Akron congregation that describes itself as a “present truth” church focused on worshiping and loving God, equipping believers, and furthering God’s kingdom. Its worship flow is intentionally less traditional, with extended attention to praise, biblical teaching, spiritual gifts, prayer, and practical ministry. GateWay began with eight people in its pastors’ living room in 1993 and later settled near the University of Akron on East Exchange Street.

Personal worship is open Sunday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., followed by the main service at 10:00. Children’s ministry and nursery care begin after the congregational worship portion. Wednesday programming runs from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. for adults, youth, and children; on the first Wednesday of each month, everyone instead gathers for an all-church worship service and regular classes do not meet. A prayer gathering is also listed Monday at 6:00 p.m. The distinction between Sunday’s optional personal-worship period and the 10:00 service matters for first-time visitors, as does the first-Wednesday exception for families expecting age-specific classes.
