First Church of God Defiance

About this church

First Church of God Defiance meets Sunday at 10 a.m. for an informal service with blended worship songs, reflective music, and practical Bible teaching. There is no dress code. Parking is behind the Carter Road building, with spaces near the entrance reserved for visitors and people managing mobility needs or carrying young children. Nursery care covers infants and toddlers, while the Action Zone serves children through sixth grade. Children check in at lobby kiosks, join part of the main worship, and are then dismissed; a cry room lets adults remain with a child while still seeing and hearing the service. A livestream is also available.

The congregation grew from two families meeting for prayer and Bible study after a 1906 revival. It moved through several buildings before opening its Carter Road facility in 1980; Rainbow Promise Childcare Center and Preschool followed in 1984, and a dedicated Summit Youth Center was later built next door. During the school year, Wednesday family nights provide programs for children and students. Grades seven through twelve gather at Summit from 5:45 p.m. for food and conversation, followed by worship, teaching, games, small groups, and prayer from 6:30 to 8. Mission partners serve locally and in Spain, Africa, Haiti, Belize, and other regions, including child nutrition through Children of Promise.
