St Matthew Lutheran Church

About this church

St Matthew Lutheran Church meets at 5566 Chambersburg Road in Huber Heights for Sunday worship at 9:30 a.m., both in person and online through YouTube. Sunday School follows at 10:45 from September through May, with classes for children age three and older as well as adults. Holy Communion is normally celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays, on any fifth Sunday, and weekly during Advent and Lent. The church advises checking bulletins and newsletters for special midweek services and seasonal changes.

St Matthew began in 1962 when families from Lutheran congregations in Dayton and Fairborn joined to establish a church in rapidly growing Huber Heights. The new Missouri Synod mission held its first service in the Wayne High School cafeteria that September, dedicated a church and education unit in 1964, added an education wing in 1972, and opened a new sanctuary and narthex in 1988. Its mission joins Word and Sacrament with service to God, neighbor, and community. Adult study ranges from books of the Bible and Lutheran doctrine to ethical and social questions, while women's ministry supports congregational and community needs through mission projects, F.I.S.H., Daybreak, an annual bazaar, and the Easter breakfast.
