First English Lutheran Church

About this church

First English Lutheran Church is a historic congregation in downtown Mansfield, Ohio, with roots going back to 1832. Its name comes from an 1850 decision to move worship from German to English, which made it the first English-speaking Lutheran church in the area. The church is affiliated with the North American Lutheran Church and gathers for Sunday worship at 10 a.m. in the Lutheran tradition. Sunday services are streamed live on Facebook, and sermons and special events are also posted on YouTube.

Regular groups include a men's Bible study on Monday mornings, a women's Bible study on the second Monday afternoon of each month, and fellowship and prayer for all ages during the school year. Much of the church's work reaches the surrounding neighborhood: a monthly produce distribution from spring through fall, food boxes for qualifying seniors, free community lunches with a short devotional and music on the first and third Wednesdays, home-delivered meals for people just released from the hospital, and a Bare Necessities Room stocked with donated essentials. Care ministries bring communion to homebound members, run a prayer chain and make prayer shawls. The church also operates an Early Learning Center for infants through school-age children, with weekly chapel. The church office is open on weekdays; confirm service and ministry times on the website before visiting.
