Monroe United Methodist Church

About this church

Monroe United Methodist Church offers two distinct Sunday experiences at 206 East Avenue. Contemporary worship begins at 9:30 a.m. in Atchley Hall, where people sit around tables with light refreshments and share modern music, prayer, Scripture, and a message; visitors use Door 7 on the east side. Traditional worship starts at 11:00 in the sanctuary with familiar hymns, Scripture, prayer, a biblical message, and music from the Chancel Choir, handbells, or other musicians. Both services stream on Facebook and YouTube, and the church says children and youth are always welcome in worship.

Nursery care for children through age four is available when families check in during the opening minutes of either service. Children’s activity bags offer another way to participate from the pews, while ministries for ages three through sixth grade provide additional formation. The congregation was planted in 1823 and describes its present identity as multigenerational, welcoming people with extensive church backgrounds, no background, or a long absence. That combination of deep local roots and contrasting service styles makes Monroe UMC a useful choice for households deciding between casual, table-based contemporary worship and a more traditional sanctuary experience without changing congregations.
