First Christian Church Disciples

About this church

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) gathers at 1316 Ninth Street in Woodward. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:45. Students in grades six through twelve meet Sundays from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for a meal, music, a message, games, and fellowship. The congregation's Disciples identity emphasizes Christian unity, thoughtful reading of Scripture rather than a required creed, weekly Communion, deep spirituality, and hands-on work for justice. Recorded services are available online, giving prospective visitors a way to encounter the church's worship before attending.

Community ministry is extensive for a congregation whose public schedule is simple. The official site identifies projects involving a food pantry, soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Panhandle Nutritional Services, backpacks, coats and shoes, an Angel Tree, and clothing support. Those programs place hunger and family needs alongside worship rather than treating outreach as an occasional event. Children's programming includes Sunday School, Kids of the Cross, Vacation Bible School, and a day-care ministry, while adults can join music and study opportunities. Because individual outreach schedules vary, the Sunday morning sequence is the dependable first step; current volunteer or assistance hours should be confirmed with the church office.
