Second Avenue Global Methodist Church

About this church

Second Avenue Global Methodist Church has served Altoona from 130 Second Avenue since 1888. Its current Sunday schedule places Sunday School from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., coffee and conversation from 9:30 to 10:15, and one combined worship service at 10:15. Worship blends hymns, creeds, a children’s message, and praise music. Junior Church serves children ages two through fifth grade; in summer, families may use the unstaffed nursery as a cry room. The building provides an elevator to the sanctuary, chair lifts to the social hall and gym, and designated wheelchair spaces.

The congregation belongs to the Global Methodist Church and supports hands-on outreach near and far. Ministries have included home repairs, wells, school support, and an after-school program called The ROCK. The church has announced an expanded 2026–27 ROCK schedule, including a longer Wednesday session and shorter programs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. A free soup-and-sandwich lunch is served on the third Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Because recent announcements replaced an earlier two-service schedule, check the official schedule before attending.
