Wakeman's Grove Church of the Brethren

About this church

Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren in Edinburg begins Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and traditional worship at 10:30. A service includes prayer, music and singing, an offering, and preaching grounded in Scripture. Clothing generally ranges from business casual to everyday wear, and the church emphasizes a visitor’s presence over a dress standard. A large parking lot sits directly in front of the building at 668 Wakemans Grove Road.

The congregation’s Brethren identity emphasizes following Jesus in simple obedience, peace and reconciliation, integrity, responsible use of resources, family life, and service to neighbors. Its mission joins Christian discipleship with care for spiritual, social, and physical needs locally and around the world. That history of shared work is visible in the building itself, which early members constructed with extensive donated labor. Love Feast appears in records by 1905, Sunday School rooms were added in 1936, and later land gifts expanded the current parking and cemetery. More recently, the church created a Student Support Program during the pandemic to give children a structured environment for virtual learning. Current events include adult classes and online women’s Bible study alongside the standing Sunday schedule.
