Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ has served Madison’s near east side from the corner of Atwood Avenue and Ohio Street since 1903. Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in person, by livestream, and through Zoom. The service is guided but not highly liturgical: expect prayer, singing, silence, Scripture, and a sermon connecting the text with present life. Dress ranges from jeans to dresses and an occasional tie. Communion is normally celebrated on the first Sunday and is open to everyone, using bread with a gluten-free option and grape juice.

Plymouth is an Open and Affirming, Immigrant-Welcoming, Just Peace, and Dementia-Friendly UCC congregation. Children often leave after the children’s message for church school, but may remain in worship; an infant-care room and activity area are also available. The building has a lift serving every level, accessible restrooms, wheelchair spaces, hearing devices, and large-print bulletins, while accessible parking is limited to the rear driveway. Community life includes the PEP-Atwood Personal Essentials Pantry and space for multiple recovery groups. Those commitments make Plymouth’s welcome unusually concrete: inclusion is reflected not only in its statement of faith, but also in building access, open Communion, neighborhood service, and the structure of worship itself.
