What Does 1 Chronicles 16:22 Mean?
Here the psalm gives God's own words of protection. He calls the patriarchs His anointed and His prophets, and forbids the nations to lay a hand on them.
God so identifies with His people that to harm them is to provoke Him. To be called His anointed is to be set apart and claimed as His own, sheltered under His name. This tender, fierce care points forward to the truth that those who belong to the Lord are precious in His sight. The God who guarded the patriarchs still says over His people, Touch them not.
