Deacons likewise must be dignified, sincere, not addicted to wine, and not greedy.

What Does 1 Timothy 3:8 Mean?

Turning to deacons, those who serve the practical needs of the church, Paul lists similar marks: dignity, honest speech, freedom from drunkenness, and no greed for gain.

'Not doubletongued' means not saying one thing to one person and another to the next. Those who handle the church's service and resources must be trustworthy and sincere, free from the love of money that corrupts.
