Paul presses the point home: 'Now therefore perform the doing of it.' The time has come to finish. There had been a 'readiness to will,' a genuine eagerness, and now that eagerness must become 'performance,' completed action, 'out of that which ye have,' from their own resources.
Desire is a fine beginning, but desire alone feeds no one. Paul gently insists that willingness reach its goal in doing. Many good intentions die in the gap between wanting and acting; he will not let theirs. Notice he asks only 'out of that which ye have,' nothing beyond their means. God honors the completed gift drawn from real resources, however modest. The crown of a willing heart is a deed actually done.
