What Does 2 Peter 1:2 Mean?
This greeting echoes the way letters of the day opened, but Peter deepens it. He does not merely wish grace and peace; he asks that they be "multiplied" — increased again and again. The channel he names is knowledge, not knowledge as bare information but a personal, growing acquaintance with God and with Jesus the Lord.
Grace and peace are not static gifts received once. They expand as we come to know God more truly. The more a believer learns who God is and what Jesus has done, the more grace is felt and the more peace settles in. This sets the theme of the whole letter: knowing Christ is the soil in which everything good grows. Peter wants his readers rich, and the path to that richness runs through deepening relationship with the Lord.
