Paul names his threefold appointment in service of this gospel: preacher, apostle, and teacher to the nations.

What Does 2 Timothy 1:11 Mean?

Having declared the gospel of life, Paul names his place within it. He was appointed, set in his role by God, to proclaim, to be sent, and to teach, with his particular mission reaching to the Gentiles, the nations beyond Israel.

Paul's identity is bound up entirely with the message he carries. He is not self-made but appointed, a servant given a task far larger than himself. The mention of the Gentiles shows the reach of the gospel, breaking past every boundary to gather people from all nations. For the reader, this models a life organized around God's purposes rather than personal ambition. Each believer, in their own measure, is appointed to make Christ known, and no calling to spread this good news is small.
