What Does Acts 21:30 Mean?
The accusation spreads like fire: the whole city is roused, people come running from every side, they seize Paul and drag him out of the temple, and at once the doors are shut behind him. The scene is one of mob violence, swift and overwhelming.
The shutting of the temple doors is a heavy image. Paul is thrust outside the holy place by his own people, much as his Lord was led outside the city to suffer. Yet being cast out by men is not being cast out by God. Often the Lord is nearest to His servants in the very hour they are rejected, and grace continues its work beyond the closed door.
