What Does Acts 21:36 Mean?
The throng follows close behind, crying out, Away with him. They want Paul removed, destroyed, gone. The shout rises against him as he is carried up the stairs.
These are nearly the same words once hurled at the Lord Jesus before Pilate. Paul is being conformed to the sufferings of his Master, hearing the very cry his Savior heard. To share in Christ's rejection is, in its own way, to share in His fellowship. The servant is not above his Lord, and there is a strange honor in walking the road Christ walked.
