What Does Acts 4:5 Mean?
Morning brings the official proceeding. Rulers, elders, and scribes were the groups that made up the great council of Israel — the same court that had examined Jesus (Luke 22:66). The apostles will stand where their Lord stood.
Jesus had promised that his followers would be brought before rulers for his name, and that words would be given them in that hour (Luke 21:12-15). Luke lets us watch the promise come due. The stage that was meant to intimidate becomes the platform for testimony.
