What Does Ephesians 1:2 Mean?
Grace comes first, then peace -- and the order matters. Peace with God and within the soul follows from grace, the unearned favor God pours out. Paul will spend three chapters unfolding this grace before he asks anything of his readers.
Notice that the blessing comes 'from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ' together. The Father and the Son are named in one breath as the shared source of every good gift. This twofold greeting is more than courtesy; it sets the tone of a letter saturated with what God freely gives.
