God's people are finally free and on the move. But which way should they go? God Himself shows them — in a way they can actually see.
Today's Story
Free at last! After four hundred years, God's people walked out of Egypt together. God told them, “Remember this day forever. Tell your children and your children's children how I set you free.”
But now they were out in a huge, empty desert with no roads and no signs. Which way should they go?
God did not leave them to figure it out alone. By day, a tall pillar of cloud went ahead of them, showing them the way. They just followed the cloud.
And at night, when the desert was dark and cold, that same pillar glowed like fire — bright and warm, lighting up the path so they could see and feel safe.
The cloud never left in the daytime. The fire never left at night. Wherever it moved, they moved. Wherever it stopped, they rested. God Himself was leading His people — out in front, every single step of the way.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- God's people just had to follow the cloud and the fire. What are some ways God helps guide you and your family today?
- The fire glowed all night so they wouldn't be scared in the dark. What helps you feel safe at night?
- God told them to remember this day and tell their kids about it. What's a story about God you'd want to tell when you grow up?
