Galatians 5:15 Meaning and Explanation

Against the picture of loving service, Paul sets its grim opposite. If ye bite and devour one another — the language of wild animals tearing at prey — the community turns on itself. The very people meant to serve each other in love begin to wound and consume each other instead.

Take heed, he warns, that ye be not consumed one of another. Such conflict has only one end: mutual destruction. A church that feeds on its own quarrels will devour itself from within. The freedom of Christ was never meant to fuel rivalry and strife; where it does, the warning is urgent, for no one survives a fellowship that turns into a battlefield.
