Even sun and moon halt in their places, outshone by the light of God's arrows and the gleam of His spear.

What Does Habakkuk 3:11 Mean?

The cosmic imagery reaches the heavens themselves. The sun and moon stand still in their dwelling, as if stopped in their courses, overwhelmed by the brilliance of God's weapons — the lightning of His arrows and the flashing of His spear. The greatest lights of the sky are eclipsed by the splendor of the Warrior God.

The point is the surpassing glory of God's power. Even the sun and moon, which govern day and night, pause before Him; their light is nothing beside the radiance of His coming. This recalls moments when God intervened with heavenly signs to deliver His people. For the believer, it is a vivid assurance that the God we serve outshines the brightest powers in all creation. Before Him, even the lights of heaven yield; His glory is without rival.
