What Does Hebrews 2:16 Mean?
The writer underlines whom Christ came to rescue. He did not lay hold of angels to help them; He laid hold of "the seed of Abraham" -- the line of promise, and through it humanity itself. His saving reach is toward people, not angelic beings.
This explains why He took on flesh and blood rather than angelic form. To rescue humanity, He had to take hold of humanity. By joining Himself to Abraham's line, He becomes able to help us at the very point of our need.
